Cupcakes in the Windy City!

October was an exciting month for us at Pink Sugar Cupcakery! From Thanksgiving to Halloween we were busy getting our pumpkin and spooktacular cupcakes baked and decorated for all of our wonderful customers. I was also fortunate enough to go to Chicago and not only got to go to the Oprah Winfrey show, but got to check out some cool cupcake shops while I was there.

Chicago is an amazing city with lots of great restaurants and shopping. I asked just about everyone who would talk to me where in Chicago the best cupcakes were and got many different answers. Because I was limited for time I picked the two whose names came up the most during my queries and a third one that was in walking distance from my hotel. My cupcake re-con adventure started out great as I walked to Sugar Bliss in the downtown core of Chicago. I purchased my cupcakes there and then got a taxi to head to Molly's cupcakes. Once through making my purchase at Molly's( where I will admit to getting a little carried away) I headed out to get another taxi only to find it pouring with rain. Fortunately it didn't take long to get another taxi and I made my way to my final cupcake destination Sweet Mandy B's. After I made my last cupcake purchase of the day I attempted to get another taxi and instead got caught out in the rain laden with 2 and half dozen cupcakes! Eventually I found a Starbucks and the nice lady working there brought me some Kleenex to clean up the mascara running down my face and called me a taxi. I only lost about 6 cupcakes as the box and paper bag they were in got drenched(I did manage to have a quick sample though before I threw the box in the trash). After all that I can honestly say that the best cake I had while I was in Chicago was at Table 52 owned by Art Smith, Oprah's former chef. The Hummingbird cake was outstanding (which is not a word I use lightly when it comes to cake) and in case you love macaroni and cheese too it was the best I have ever had(sorry grandma:) if you go to Chicago I highly recommend getting a reservation at Table 52. All in all it was a great little cupcake adventure and I did get some cool ideas for flavors that I have never even thought of and got some great use out my fancy rubber boots!

As for what's in store this month...we finally have that mocha cupcake you've been asking for! For all of November you can treat yourself to our fantastic chocolate cake topped with a rich coffee flavoured frosting, a treat that is not to be missed out on. You'll also find us out and about this month as we participate in the 2nd Annual Centennial Square Christmas Tree lightup on November 27th. We also hope to go on at least one if not two cupcake adventures and will keep you posted on our travels!

Christmas is just around the corner and we have some amazing flavours lined up, so stay tunned for all the amazing treats we have lined up for December!
